On this program, Bryan Lynn and Anna Matteo host the show. Bryan tells listeners what they are going to hear.
(2:19) First, Anna presents Words and Their Stories. This week, she explains ways that English speakers might describe someone who is sharp or who has good vision. Some birds, called raptors, are known for their extremely sharp vision. Eagles, hawks, and owls can see their prey from very far away. Learn how we use these birds in many English expressions. For example, hear how “a bird’s eye view” and “eagle-eyed” are used in everyday speech. https://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/don-t-miss-a-thing-with-eagle-eyes-/7963085.html
(8:25) Then, Bryan reports on a discovery in space that surprised researchers. Scientists say Europe’s Euclid space telescope has discovered a bright ring of light around a nearby galaxy. The light, known as an Einstein ring, results when the light of a more distant galaxy bends around a nearer galaxy forming a circle of light. https://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/european-telescope-discovers-einstein-ring-in-nearby-galaxy/7972838.html
(15:21) Next, Andrew Smith tells listeners about a wild and special place in the western United States. Mainly in the state of Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park was the first and remains one of the largest of America’s great parks. It is home to the largest collection of wild animals in the lower 48 states. It is also an active volcanoe and it is famous for its geothermal activity. https://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/yellowstone-the-world-s-first-national-park/7974034.html
(20:13) Finally, Andrew joins Jill Robbins for another Lesson of the Day. The explore the details of using superlative: things that are the biggest, smallest, best and worst. In Lesson 30, Level 1 of Let’s Learn English, Anna and her friends use superlatives to describe a seafood market in Washington, D.C. Jill and Andrew talk about some examples of superlatives like “freshest” and “oldest,” but they note you cannot say “deliciousest.” So there are some rules to remember. https://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/lets-learn-english-lesson-30-rolling-river/3522798.html
Then Bryan and Anna sign off.
