Jill Robbins starts with a report about the short-lived martial law in South Korea. On Tuesday night, President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law and sent troops into the streets. For several hours, armed forces with helicopters and armored vehicles surrounded the parliament. Lawmakers had to climb walls to get into the building and used fire extinguishers to hold off the troops. The lawmakers then voted to overturn the law and to impeach Yoon. France is reopening the Notre Dame Cathedral after a five-year-long rebuilding project this weekend. Caty has a report on five things to know about the famous religious center. They include “the starting point of the roads of France,” the famous gargoyles, statues without heads, its time during the French Revolution and the 2019 fire. The Roman Catholic religious center is considered a jewel of Gothic building design, a symbol of Paris and is a popular site to visit. For Science and Technology, Bryan Lynn reports that the United Nations is calling for increased international cooperation to improve safety as the amount of space traffic continues to grow. Data from the American-based company Slingshot Aerospace suggests there are more than 14,000 satellites around the world in low Earth orbit. That number includes about 3,500 satellites that are currently inactive. In addition, there are about 120 million pieces of orbital debris left over from spacecraft launches, crashes or other causes.
